Difference to biodiesel
Vegetable oil is often confounded with biodiesel, actually just as abstract as to confound diesel with pure oil. RME and/or biodiesel is e.g. made from vegetable oil, in addition, of animal fats and used vegetable oils under addition by 10% fossil methanol and further materials like catalysts. So the chemical characteristics of pure vegetable oil and biodiesel are very different.
Disadvantages of Biodiesel compared with vegetable oil:
- consumption rises around the average 8%
- equally the power get lost
- it is high aggressive and attacks lines and seals
- it is hygroscopically (water-attractively - > corrosion of sensitive precision mechanics)
- it isn`t suitable for decentralized production
- it devours tax money
- it is poisonous and water-endangering
- in it's production a handling with dangerous chemicals is required
- it has a worse energy and ecological balance than vegetable oil
- it dilutes the engine oil - > shorter oil change intervals
- it prevents the change toward technology in the nature cycle
- it is an attempt of the oil industry to come into the bio sector
- it decompose itself in nature slower than veg. oil
- in the long term an utilization for the resulting glycerin must be found

All this is not when using vegetable oil.
